There have been a lot comments lately on who would be the better General Election candidate. I've given it some thought, and am making it the subject of my first diary anywhere.
Most would agree that Clinton's base of support, in general, is women, the elderly, and the working class. Obama's base is dominated by the young and by African Americans, and to a lesser extent, well off people.
Young people historically vote at much lower rates than old, that's well established. In addition, whites, in the numbers I've seen, historically also had slightly higher turnout rates than blacks. (4% higher in 2004, according to www.census.gov)
